Detective John Gibson was killed after exchanging gunfire with the suspect who had shot Officer Jacob Chestnut minutes earlier. The suspect entered the office of Congressman Tom DeLay, whom Detective Gibson was assigned to protect. Despite being mortally wounded, he was able to return fire and wound the suspect. Detective Gibson served 18 years with the USCP.
