On January 6, 2021, Officer Brian Sicknick responded to the U.S. Capitol to defend Congress from a violent mob that had tried to prevent the certification of the 2020 Presidential election results. He was assaulted by rioters, including being directly attacked with pepper spray. He later suffered two strokes and died the next night. Officer Sicknick had served with the USCP for more than 12 years, and served in the First Responder’s Unit.
