Officer Jacob “JJ” Chestnut was killed when a suspect entered the U.S. Capitol and opened fire after walking through a metal detector. Officer Chestnut was at the building’s entrance helping two visitors when the gunman entered. Officer Chestnut served 18 years with the Department and two tours of duty with the U.S. Air Force military police in the Vietnam War.
