Jeanita D. Mitchell Acting Assistant Chief of Police for Protective and Intelligence Operations

Acting Assistant Chief Jeanita D. Mitchell has been in her role since February 2025. Prior to leading the Protective and Intelligence Operations, she was Deputy Chief of the Protective Services Bureau.
Acting Assistant Chief Mitchell joined the Department in 1998 where she was assigned to the Senate Division. In 2008, she was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the House Division. Acting Assistant Chief Mitchell was promoted to lieutenant in 2012 and worked in the Command Center. Three years later, she was reassigned to the Special Events Section and subsequently promoted to captain.
Acting Assistant Chief Mitchell remained in the Special Events Section for a short term as captain before transitioning to the Capitol Division and later the Investigations Division. In 2021, she was promoted to the inspector of the Investigations Division where she oversaw the Threat Assessment Section, the Intelligence Operations Section, and the Criminal Investigations Section.
