August 24, 2009 marks the 25th Anniversary of U.S. Capitol Police Sergeant Christopher Eney’s line of duty death. He was the first U.S. Capitol Police Officer to be killed in the line of duty on August 24, 1984.
Sergeant Eney was accidentally killed during a CERT (SWAT) training exercise in Washington, DC. He served with the U.S. Capitol Police for 12 ½ years and is survived by his wife Vivian Cross and their two daughters Shannen and Heather.
A wreath laying ceremony will be held at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC at 12:00 pm on August 18, 2009, followed by a reception hosted by the U.S. Capitol Police at 1:00 pm in room HC-6 of the U.S. Capitol.
