Sean P. Gallagher Acting Chief of Police
Acting Chief Gallagher oversaw the United States Capitol Police's Uniformed Operations from June 2021 until he was named Acting Chief on June 02, 2025. Acting Chief Gallagher joined the Department in 2001 and within a few years, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and assigned to the House Division. In 2008, Acting Chief Gallagher was promoted to lieutenant and assigned as the assistant commander of Investigations Division until 2010. From 2010 to 2018 he was assigned as the assistant commander of the Dignitary Protection Division and the Capitol Division. After being promoted to inspector in 2018, he served as the commander of the Dignitary Protection Division. Upon being promoted to deputy chief in 2019, he was assigned to lead the Protective Services Bureau.
Acting Chief Gallagher has been acknowledged for his distinguished service as the commander of the 2015 Papal Task Force, the Presidential Inauguration in 2017, as well as leading several National Presidential Conventions and Congressional Delegations.
Acting Chief Gallagher holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice from the Pennsylvania State University, as well as a Master's Degree in Public Safety from the University of Virginia. Acting Chief Gallagher is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) Senior Management Institute of Police.
