The number of United States Capitol Police (USCP) threat assessment cases climbed last year, as we head into an election year when threats typically surge.

In 2023, the USCP’s Threat Assessment Section (TAS) investigated 8,008 cases. That number includes investigations into concerning statements and direct threats.

Yesterday afternoon, United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers arrested a man who was carrying a machete and a knife on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol.

"This is another example of the vigilance and strong intuition of our USCP officers," said U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger. "I am proud of our cops who routinely work to keep everyone around the U.S Capitol safe."

Last night approximately 200 people gathered in front of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters to protest the conflict in the Middle East.

We have handled hundreds of peaceful protests, but last night's group was not peaceful. The crowd failed to obey our lawful orders to move back from the DNC, where Members of Congress were in the building.

Today, United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers arrested a man who was carrying a rifle in the park across from Union Station.

"See something, say something' is not just an empty slogan. We are grateful for the individual who alerted our officer to the man with a gun in the park," said USCP Chief Tom Manger. "These cops immediately ran toward the man with the loaded gun. As always -- I am proud of our cops."

Two armed criminals are off the streets after the United States Capitol Police (USCP) captured them and confiscated their handguns – one of which had a "Giggle Switch" to turn the weapon into a machine gun.

"This is just another example of our officers and their vigilance and perseverance putting away dangerous criminals," said USCP Assistant Chief Sean Gallagher. "They are constantly working to keep everyone safe throughout the Capitol Complex."

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) is working to find the three criminals who carjacked a Member of Congress.

"We have a number of leads," said U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger. "Our investigators are focused, determined and working around the clock."

The USCP is being assisted by the DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the FBI Washington Field Office.

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) continues to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the fire alarm that resulted in the evacuation of the Cannon House Office Building.

At approximately 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, a fire alarm sounded inside the Cannon Building. USCP officers evacuated people from the building, floor by floor. The fire alarm only sounded in the Cannon Building, so that was the only building that was evacuated.
