April 14, 2023

This morning the United States Capitol Police (USCP) stopped an assault rifle, with an extended magazine, before it reached Capitol Hill.

Just after 5:00 a.m, a USCP screening team spotted the gun, which was partially wrapped in a blanket in the back seat of a large Ford pick-up truck. The rifle was confiscated at an off-site delivery facility where the Department inspects delivery vehicles before they get to Capitol Grounds.


March 3, 2023

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) confiscated an M-4 style "ghost gun" and a Glock handgun with a full auto switch (machine gun) while they were patrolling the perimeter of the Capitol Complex, near the Senate Parks.

The arrests were made a short walk from the Congressional Buildings and across the street from television studios Members of Congress frequently use.


February 4, 2023

On Tuesday, February 7, at 9:00 p.m., the President of the United States will deliver the State of the Union Address before a Joint Session of Congress. To ensure everyone's safety, the United States Capitol Police will temporarily close roads around the U.S. Capitol.

At 6:30 a.m., the following roads will be closed to the public:


January 31, 2023

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) caught a suspected police impersonator with a stash of knives on Monday after receiving a tip from the United States Secret Service (USSS).

At approximately 6:20 p.m., an officer with the USCP's Bicycle Response Team noticed a man, who was wanted for questioning by the U.S. Secret Service, near the corner of Third Street and Madison Drive, NW. Officers with the USSS Uniformed Division first spotted the suspect a few minutes earlier near Constitution Avenue and 15th Street.

Today the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia announced the sentencing for the people involved in the attack against United States Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Here is USCP Chief Tom Manger's statement:


January 24, 2023

This afternoon United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers arrested two suspects who hid in an outdoor restaurant freezer after a vehicle pursuit.

Around 11:45 a.m., an officer along the 100 block of E Street, NW, spotted a white BMW sedan that was believed to be tied to multiple armed carjackings across a neighboring county. The people inside the car were considered to be armed and dangerous. The officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver sped off.


January 19, 2023

Ahead of a planned demonstration in the District of Columbia, the United States Capitol Police (USCP) will temporarily close First Street from Constitution Avenue, NE, to Independence Avenue, SE between approximately 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, and approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20.

The USCP will temporarily close the following roads between approximately 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20:

Last year the number of threat investigations by the United States Capitol Police (USCP) decreased, but the caseload remains historically high.

In 2022, the USCP Threat Assessment Section (TAS) investigated a total of 7,501 cases. That number includes investigations into concerning statements and direct threats.

This afternoon a group of demonstrators were illegally blocking traffic on Independence Avenue, SW, near First Street, SW.
