USCP Arrests Man for Reckless Driving
This morning United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers arrested a man after he drove onto the sidewalk along Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, and parked in the grass near Constitution Avenue and Third Street, NW. The incident happened just before 9:50 a.m.
After the USCP bomb squad cleared the car and USCP investigators interviewed the driver, it was determined not to be a threat to the Congress or Capitol Grounds.
The driver, 26-year-old Hari R. Chanamolu of Georgia, was identified as a telecommunications employee was going to perform work in the area.
“Driving on the sidewalk is never a good idea – especially anywhere near the U.S. Capitol Building,” said U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger. “I am proud of our officers for their quick reaction. We have already been ramping up security, as planned, ahead of a busy month at the U.S. Capitol with the certification of the 2024 election, the state funeral, and the inauguration.”
The driver was arrested for Reckless Driving.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this release had Maryland Avenue, instead of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. The incident happened along Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.
