Aircraft Enters Restricted Airspace Prompting Evacuation of U.S. Capitol Complex

At approximately 1:30 pm today, the U.S. Capitol Police monitored and tracked an aircraft that entered restricted airspace heading towards the U.S. Capitol. All Senate and House office buildings were evacuated, including the U.S. Capitol Building.
Once it was determined that the threat had dissipated, and communication was established with the pilot who landed the aircraft safely at Reagan National Airport, the U.S. Capitol Police resumed normal operating procedures. All buildings were clear for re-entry and the Capitol Complex was re-opened at approximately 2:00 pm.
The U.S. Capitol Police is investigating this situation in conjunction with TSA.
