In the winter of 2000, the US Capitol Police adopted Birney Elementary School, located at 2501 Martin Luther King Boulevard SE Washington, D.C. Since that time, the US Capitol Police have sponsored several events for the Birney students, encouraging them to stay educated and motivated.

On Friday, December 15, 2006, the United States Capitol Police will host the Seventh Annual Holiday Party for sixty Birney children. The event will take place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Dirksen Senate Office Building room SDG50. During this event, children ages 4 through 11 will be transported by police escort motorcade from Birney Elementary School to Capitol Hill, where they will wait for Santa to arrive on horse and carriage on the corner of First and C Street NE. The children will then enjoy refreshments, entertainment, and receive gifts donated by members of the United States Capitol Police and area businesses. For many of these children, the gifts received at this event are the highlight of their holidays.

All media wishing to attend are welcome to do so! If interested, please contact Sergeant Kimberly Schneider in the United States Capitol Police Public Information Office at 202-224-1677.
