In the winter of 2000, the US Capitol Police adopted an elementary school located in Washington, DC. Since that time, the US Capitol Police have sponsored several events for the Birney Elementary students, encouraging them to stay educated and motivated.

On Friday, May 30, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., the Department will sponsor a career day for students of the Birney Elementary School at the Eney, Chestnut, Gibson Memorial Building located at 119 D Street, NE. The event will include various static displays from USCP units consisting of patrol cars, k-9's and bomb detection systems, along with several other exhibits. The students will be invited to review and learn about the mission of the USCP through interaction with our officers and civilian personnel. They will also be allowed to view and handle operational equipment in the Department's inventory.

The students will also have the occasion to hear from selected employees who will stress the benefits of education and good decision-making as it relates to successful life and career choices. All events are planned to occur in the parking lot on the west side of the building.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the United States Capitol Police Public Information Office at 202-224-1677.
