At approximately 1:50 p.m., a white male was arrested for Unregistered Ammunition in the Unit Block of Constitution Avenue NE, after turning over a shotgun shell to an officer during a traffic stop.

The individual was initially observed by a USCP motorbike officer in an older model Oldsmobile traveling with several items strapped to his vehicle to include a gasoline container. When the officer approached the vehicle, the individual voluntarily presented the officer with a shotgun shell and was reluctant to speak to him.

Subsequent to the individual being transported to the 119 D Street NE facility for processing, a USCP K-9 indicated three times on the vehicle alerting his handler.

The USCP Hazardous Device Section and DC Fire were called in to further investigate the situation and determined the vehicle to be clear of any hazardous devices at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Throughout the duration of the event, Constitution Avenue was closed between First Street NE and First Street NW, to include the Upper Senate Park and the exterior of the north side of the US Capitol Building.

If there are any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact the United States Capitol Police Public Information Office at 202-224-1677.
