Chief Terrance W. Gainer is pleased to announce the appointment of Deputy Chief James P. Rohan to the position of Assistant Chief upon the upcoming retirement of Assistant Chief Robert Howe. Deputy Chief Rohan will begin transitioning into the new position, which he will officially assume at the end of the Summer

Chief Gainer would like to commend Assistant Chief Howe, who has served with great dedication and honor during more than 33 years of service. Deputy Chief Rohan joined the United States Capitol Police in 1975. He has proven to be an enormous asset to the Department, as well as, showing great leadership during major incidents such as the anthrax attacks and the recent ricin incident.

Deputy Chief Rohan's experience spans from his current position commanding the Operational Services Bureau to investigations, training, recruiting and civil disturbance. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy and Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a major in Law Enforcement, from the University of Maryland. He earned his Master of Science degree in Justice, with a major in Law Enforcement, from American University.
