On Saturday, October 15, 2005, the Million More Movement will be held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March. Invited guests and public will be permitted to access the event site at the U.S. Capitol beginning at 4:00 a.m. All guests attending the event will be required to pass through security screening before entering the event site. This will include an administrative search of all bags, coolers, backpacks, and closed containers.
Anyone planning to attend is encouraged to use public transportation. No parking will be made available on Capitol grounds. The following street closures will be in effect starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14th until the conclusion of the event on October 16th:
- First Street from Independence Avenue, SW to Constitution Avenue, NW
- Maryland Avenue, SW from First to Third Street
- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from First to Third Street
In support of the event, public tours of the U.S. Capitol and U.S. Botanic Gardens will be suspended on October 15. If there are any questions about these events or security procedures, you may contact the United States Capitol Police Public Information Office at (202) 224-1677.
