Security Breach

7:00 p.m.

At approximately 7:47 a.m., a vehicle breached security of the Capitol Visitor Center Construction area by running a barricade at First and Maryland Ave N.E. The suspect’s vehicle crashed into a retaining wall near one of the skylights of the visitor’s center. The suspect exited the vehicle, breached the security of the Capitol Building, was confronted by officers and apprehended. Search incident to arrest revealed the subject had a loaded weapon and what appeared to be crack cocaine. The suspect subsequently had a seizure and was transported by DC EMS for treatment. During the incident the Capitol Building was briefly locked down.

The suspect is charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm and other charges are pending the result of the investigation.
