State Funeral for former President Ronald W. Reagan

The viewing for former President Reagan will be open to the public from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, until 7 a.m. Friday, June 11. The public can line up at any time. The designated waiting area will be along the south side of the Capitol reflecting pool, located at 1st and Maryland Avenue, S.W.

NO CAMERAS OR FLOWERS of any kind will be allowed into the Capitol. Other prohibited items include:

Bookbags, oversized bags, suitcases, or anything larger than a handbag

Any audio and/or video recording devices

Guns, knives, stunguns, ammunition, razors, box cutters, or other weapons

Mace, pepper spray, or any aerosol sprays

Cans and bottles

Food or beverages

The United States Capitol Police urges everyone to bring as few items as possible in order to expedite security screening. The use of public transportation is strongly recommended to minimize the congestion of traffic around the Capitol. Public parking is not available on Capitol Grounds. Metro will provide shuttle bus service from RFK Stadium to 7th and Madison Drive, N.W., from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday. Return trips to RFK Stadium will pick up at First and Constitution Avenue, N.W., in 15 minute intervals.

There will be street closures around the Capitol. On Wednesday, Constitution Ave. N.W., on Capitol Grounds will be closed from 5 p.m. to approximately 8 p.m. First Street will be closed from Constitution Avenue, N.W., to Independence Avenue, S.W., from 4 p.m. Wednesday, until 11 a.m. Friday. There may be additional street closures around the Capitol as it becomes necessary; other law enforcement agencies will close streets outside of Capitol Grounds at various times.

Anyone wishing to attend the services should expect to wait in long lines and be prepared to deal with the extreme warm weather conditions. In order to be respectful while viewing our former President, protocol requires that cell phones and pagers must be turned off while in the Capitol. Wearing of ball caps is prohibited while in the Rotunda. In order to facilitate the large number of persons desiring to view former President Reagan, it will be necessary to prohibit stopping or slowing while in the Rotunda. We urge everyone to be patient during this historic event, as your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
