U.S. Capitol Police Respond to Suspicious Package at Congressional Offsite Mail Screening Facility

At approximately 9:15 a.m., the United States Capitol Police (USCP) Hazardous Devices Section responded to a report of one suspicious package addressed to a Member of Congress at a Congressional Offsite Mail Screening Facility. The facility was evacuated as a precaution.

The package was removed from the Offsite Mail Screening Facility, and it is being further investigated by the USCP and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The USCP is also working with local law enforcement agencies in Florida on this ongoing investigation. The USCP cleared the Offsite Mail Facility at approximately 1:20 p.m.

The USCP also is working closely with the House and Senate Sergeant at Arms, the House Chief Administrative Officer, and Congressional leaders to ensure the safety and security of Members of Congress, their staffs, and their offices.
