March 2, 2022
Press Release

A Maryland driver is facing two traffic charges after a vehicle crash involving a school bus.

Just before 9:00 am, the driver of a Dodge Ram pick-up truck was travelling west on Independence Avenue, SW when the driver ran a red light and crashed into a school bus that was travelling south on Third Street, SW.

There were not any children in the school bus and both the driver of the pick-up truck and the bus were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After crashing with the school bus, the pick-up truck then struck a 10-year old female pedestrian before the pick-up truck came to a stop. The bus struck two other vehicles that were stopped at the red light before the bus came to a stop.

The girl was transported to the hospital and has since been treated and released.

No one in the two other vehicles that were struck reported any injuries.

The driver of the pick-up truck, identified as 42-year old Miriam Sanchez Pineda of Maryland, was ticketed for “Passing Red Signal” and “Failure to Pay Attention.”
