Chief Phillip Morse announced today that the USCP has received reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA). The reaccreditation was awarded at the Fall 2011 CALEA Conference, which was held this past week in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Along with the reaccreditation, United States Capitol Police (USCP) was awarded the CALEA Accreditation with Excellence Award, the highest single-period accreditation award available to CALEA member agencies. The Accreditation with Excellence Award is intended to further recognize exceptional agencies for their effective use of the accreditation process for enhanced public safety service.

These accomplishments could not be achieved without the efforts of the Department’s 2009–2011 CALEA Accreditation Team: The leadership and guidance of Accreditation Manager and Assistant Accreditation Manager as well as the support to the reaccreditation process that was provided by the CALEA liaisons from the various USCP elements.

Although the CALEA Accreditation Team led the charge in the reaccreditation process, each employee can take pride in what has been accomplished through their role in supporting the many CALEA standards that are a part of the USCP’s management systems.

“I thank and congratulate the Department on achieving this success! All of your hard work and diligence has contributed to CALEA recognizing the USCP as an outstanding public safety agency,” said Chief Phillip Morse.
