A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) arrived at the United States Capitol Police on January 3, 2009, to complete its on-site evaluation of the Department for CALEA reaccreditation for the 2006 – 2008 period. The assessors evaluated the Department’s policies and procedures, operations, and administrative management and support services as it pertains to CALEA standards.

I am extremely pleased to report that the USCP was again recognized during the weekend of March 21-22, 2009 at the CALEA conference in Raleigh, North Carolina, where we received our third accreditation award. In addition to commending the Department on the outstanding results of the on-site and in meeting all of the 350+applicable standards, the commissioners also took special note of this accomplishment in light of our large, complex, and unique mission.

Verification that the Department has met the Commission’s law enforcement standards is one of the many ways in which professional excellence is recognized. The United States Capitol Police has to comply with over 350 standards in order to gain accredited status.

This is a significant achievement by the Department and especially by the CALEA Team which was led by our Accreditation Manager, Officer Emmanuel Warren. He and his team demonstrated in a very tangible way the spirit and intent of continuous improvement.
