The United States Capitol Police has already taken significant steps to implement the recommendations detailed in the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) third flash report on counter-surveillance and threat assessments.

Last night at approximately 8:20 p.m., a man identified as John Liebsch (DOB: 02/04/1984) was arrested after throwing rocks at the Russell Senate Office Building.

Multiple officers initiated contact with the suspect, who was non-compliant and very combative.

The suspect, who has multiple warrants, including a warrant for felony destruction of property at Columbus Circle in November of 2020, was charged with Felony Destruction of Property, Felony Threats, Failure to Obey, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Fugitive from Justice.


April 26, 2021

On April 28, 2021, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., will deliver an address to a Joint Session of Congress in the Chamber of the House of Representatives beginning at 9 p.m.

The event is designated as a National Special Security Event by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. Secret Service and the United States Capitol Police, along with its law enforcement partners, including the Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Park Police, are responsible for the preparation and coordination of the event's security plan.


April 26, 2021

A man is in custody this afternoon after he entered a restricted area inside the perimeter fence Sunday night. At 11:38 pm a man scaled the fence along First Street, SW. The suspect, 22-year-old Marc Beauchamp of Henrico, VA, was immediately stopped by several officers and arrested for unlawful entry. An investigation revealed the suspect illegally parked a vehicle on the grass near the Lincoln Memorial. At this time, investigators believe this was an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing.


April 19, 2021

The USCP accepts the findings from the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that Officer Brian Sicknick died of natural causes. This does not change the fact Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty, courageously defending Congress and the Capitol.

The Department continues to mourn the loss of our beloved colleague. The attack on our officers, including Brian, was an attack on our democracy.

The United States Capitol Police welcomes the USCP Office of Inspector General's (OIG) review and its recommendations. The Department understands and supports the evaluation of the events of January 6 and implementing changes to improve its operational readiness and the physical security infrastructure of the Capitol Complex.


April 13, 2021

Today, the body of United States Capitol Police Officer William "Billy" Evans will lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda.

The 41-year old died in the line of duty protecting the U.S. Capitol on April 2, 2021. A second officer who was injured in the same attack at a checkpoint was hospitalized and is recovering from his injuries at home.
