On Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at approximately 9:50 A.M., U.S. Capitol Police Officer John W. Ruskoski was struck by a moving vehicle at the intersection of 1st and Constitution, NE, while on routine motorcycle patrol.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) arrived at the United States Capitol Police on January 3, 2009, to complete its on-site evaluation of the Department for CALEA reaccreditation for the 2006 – 2008 period.

March 10, 2009
At approximately 2:20 pm today, a driver approached a U.S. Capitol Police officer for directions at Third Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Upon further investigation, the vehicle was deemed suspicious and the driver was detained for further questioning. He was arrested without incident and transported to USCP headquarters for processing.

On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, the President’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress will take place in the United States Capitol at approximately 9:00 p.m.

February 10, 2009
At approximately 4:00 pm today, a man drove up to the North Barricade of the U.S. Capitol and told Capitol Police officers that he had a delivery for President Obama. After further questioning by the officers, the man admitted to having a rifle in his vehicle. He was arrested without incident and was transported to USCP HQ for processing.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive on January 3, 2009, to evaluate the Department’s policies and procedures, operations, and administrative management and support services as it pertains to CALEA standards, Chief Phillip Morse, Sr. announced today.
